DO I need to send supporting documents for a PAN card application?


Yes, you will need to prove your identity when you’re submitting an application for a new PAN card. If you’ve already had a PAN allocated to you and have lost it, or need to update the details on it, then following the process to apply for a replacement card rather than getting a new one. Remember that it’s illegal to apply for multiple PAN cards as these can be used for fraudulent purposes.

If you are applying for a PAN card, the process is as follows.

  1. Go online and complete the forms, or make an appointment at your local PAN centre.
  2. Pay the fee, which will depend on where your card will be sent to.
  3. Complete the digital signature and scan in your photo.
  4. Scan and upload your supporting documents.

There is a long list of documents which are accepted of proof of address and identity for PAN applications, giving you flexibility over what you submit. Typically applicants will submit passports, birth certificates, other forms of ID issued by the Indian government, utility bills, bank statements.
